  • Another from Brother Guy Consolmagno, the Vatican Astronomer. This time talking of the Bible and how is it not the dictated word of God, contrary to what so many fundies would claim.

  • I really do like this man, for all he’s obviously devoutly religious he always comes across in interviews as charming, honest and thoroughly likable - a true credit to the Vatican, which could use some good spokespeople! If only more could be like him, I probably wouldn’t be so rabidly anti-theist.

  • Origen was a founding father of the Christian church and this is how he described their ideal demographic. Talk about nothing’s really changed!

  • Proof that even the Catholic Church, which let’s remember clung onto the geocentric with threats of the Inquisition etc, has the common sense to all but officially accept evolution. Pope John Paul II was only reiterating what a previous Pope had said, and indeed even the current Pope - whom I detest - has spoken out in favour of evolution.Oh, but then Christians will claim that Catholics aren’t “true Christians”. How silly of me.*facepaw*

  • I got this on Twitter after being dragged into a debate about abortion with another person - so this vile piece of crap decides to send me this, I’m gonna take a wild guess and say he’s probably a Christian.Strangely I was also called a misogynist by the other debater, Patty (@littlebytesnews) and accused of being prohate, all because I called her a stupid ignorant woman when she refused to leave me alone after repeated requests she do so, instead claiming I’d lost the debate. I hadn’t, I simply wasn’t interested in discussing it with her and told her so, she sickened me with her rhetoric. Apparently if she wants a debate you must debate her or you’ve lost!?For the record, I don’t like abortions either but they’re an unavoidable fact of life. If you legislate to make them illegal you’ll simply end up with a return to backstreet abortions where the practitioner may not even be qualified. We know from history such situations often lead to even further unnecessary suffering, or possibly even the death of the woman involved. If she doesn’t seek a backstreet abortion she may attempt to self abort, which involves everything from throwing themselves down stairs to drinking potentially deadly concoctions. But no, better we return to such a time than allow women the choice to govern their own lives. Personally I’d spend more money educating people on how to avoid pregnancy, not target and vilify those who feel they’ve no option but a termination. That’s just me though, what would I know?
Having checked the timeline of the woman who started this debate I see she is a Catholic who posts constantly about god and suchlike. Clearly her views are based on the Bible, a book where her god demands babies’ brains be dashed out on rocks. Go figure.
So, if she reads this, next time somebody says they’re not interested in a debate don’t claim you’ve won, just shut the fuck up and leave them alone. To do otherwise does make you stupid and ignorant, it also makes you rude. Now, like I asked you to on Twitter repeatedly - go away!
